Earth Hour 2016: 19/03, 20:30 – 21:30.

Earth Hour is nearly here (Saturday from 8:30-9:30pm). We invite you to join our first Earth Hour Campaign by following these three simple steps:

  • Take a picture of yourself putting off your non-essential lights and electrical appliances just before 8:30pm (do not put off security lights, stay safe).
  • After 8:30, take another picture of you using any green technology – preferably recycled and solar products: lamps, chargers, power banks, generators, etc.
  • Share your pic with us via social media using the hashtag #EarthHourGH #EarthHour2016 #EcoGeneration

Earth Hour is annually held worldwide with the aim of encouraging individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. towards the end of March, as a symbol for their commitment to the planet.

The activity is usually celebrated and publicized by environmental and climate activists following recent climate effects and projections which tells us that our planet may be dying.

Earth Hour 2015 was on Saturday, March 28, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm in each location’s local time and engaged over 7,000 cities and towns worldwide. Earth Hour 2016 will be on Saturday, March 19, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during participants’ local time.

The campaign is not a carbon reduction exercise but a symbolic action depicting a long-term commitment of participant’s towards environmental stewardship, not just an hour. Earth Hour is an initiative to encourage individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take accountability for their ecological footprint and engage in dialogue and resource exchange that provides real solutions to our environmental challenges. Nonetheless, a separate report by energy/carbon experts over six countries shows a 4% reduction in carbon emissions during Earth Hour.
